Some steps are forward. Some are back. The important thing is the movement. We only fail when we stop moving. Sure success feels wonderful, but in our success, ego grows and the magic fades so quickly. Ego begets more ego-driving needs and actions. It is self-defeating. In our failures, we learn and grow. In fact, our missteps are our best educators. But only if we take the time and (sometimes painful) effort to examine them; reflect, grow and change.
I just finished conducting an inversions and arm balancing yoga workshop and was amazed at how far some of my “regular” students have come in their practice. They weren’t this flexible when they began. They weren’t this strong when they began. And the cool thing about yoga is that there is always somewhere else – beyond – to go. And grow into.
Yoga teaches us patience. Through patient persistence we can grow, build, expand into our innate greatness. Even when we fail, we pick ourselves up and try again. That is success. And it is through this constant movement that we reach our greatest highs.
